Supporting inclusion and diversity with our partners

21 May 2022

Today is World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development.

As part of our commitment to inclusion and diversity, Urenco has partnered with education and careers charity Reach Out 2 Kids (ROK) supporting young people from diverse and low income backgrounds as well as the 10,000 Black Interns programme, welcoming our first intern to the Head Office team in September.

ROK Founder Denise Stephenson said: "We were honoured to have been chosen as a charity partner by Urenco and to have taken part in their charity partnership launch event in May. Urenco agreed last year to support ROK, firstly through a financial donation, which enabled us to deliver a number of programmes and secondly, to provide in kind support through careers presentations, providing insights and opportunities into the nuclear energy industry. This will no doubt help to encourage children and young people from diverse and lower income backgrounds to either take up STEM or generate more interest in the sector.

“The partnership with Urenco is so important as ROK works to amplify the STEM/nuclear energy sector and open up diverse industries to as many of our ROK students as possible.

“In the face of all that young people face and will face post the Covid pandemic, this will be vital. We are pleased that Urenco is committed to addressing racial and social inequalities, which perfectly aligns with our objectives. We look forward to working with Urenco to help ensure the nuclear energy sector is a more diverse and inclusive environment."

Michael Bryant, Partnership Lead for Urenco, said: “We are excited to launch our partnership with ROK. This offers Urenco employees some fantastic opportunities to advocate for our industry and STEM and help to develop a future pipeline of talent leading to a more diverse and inclusive working community.”

Sharon Light, Learning and Development Business Partner for Urenco, said: “We’re delighted to be able to support our first intern through the 10,000 Black Interns programme and, by learning together, look to further support and enhance the experience for other young people in the future.”
