Our economic impact

Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do

We are striving to make a valuable contribution to the areas where we operate, alongside our global contribution to supporting the production of low carbon nuclear energy. We wanted to know how we were doing and asked independent researchers to find out, starting with our UK and US sites.

Urenco Capenhurst, UK

Key findings

The socioeconomic impact assessment, produced by Oxford Economics, revealed:

  • Capenhurst supported a £547 million contribution to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2023. 
  • The site supported 4,575 jobs around the UK, including its 951 employees.
  • For every 10 people employed by Urenco, another 38 jobs were supported elsewhere.
  • It generated enough tax revenues (£130 million) to pay the equivalent annual wages of around 4,000 UK nurses.

Key facts

The socioeconomic impact assessment, produced by Oxford Economics, revealed:

  • Eunice site supported a $363.6 million contribution to U.S. gross domestic product (GDP) in 2024
  • For every one dollar of the company’s value-added economic activity, another $0.70 of economic activity was supported in the U.S. economy
  • For every job at the company’s facility in New Mexico, another 2.1 jobs were supported elsewhere in the U.S. economy
  • UUSA’s spending with U.S. suppliers stimulated an estimated $62.2 million in GDP, $42.1 million in labour compensation paid to workers, and $13.8 million in taxes.
