The Net Zero Transition Plan Progress Report for 2024 records the reductions made in our emissions from 2019, our baseline year, up to 2024.
It also details the actions taken in 2024 and on an ongoing basis across our sites to reduce our scope 1 (direct), scope 2 (indirect) and scope 3 (supply chain) emissions.
Urenco is committed to achieving a 90% absolute reduction in scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030, and a 30% reduction in scope 3 by the same date. It is our goal to reach net zero as a company by 2040.
Highlights of the report include:
• the introduction of a new design standard for our plants to reduce the use of natural gas, refrigerants and diesel (scope 1 emission sources)
• substantial progress made on new low-carbon electricity supply contracts at our enrichment sites heading into 2030
This marks our first progress report since our flagship Net Zero Transition Plan was published in 2023.
Net Zero Programme Manager at Urenco, Chris Pye, said:
“Sustainability is integral to everything we do at Urenco and that includes being transparent and accountable for our actions in relation to net zero.
“I’m therefore pleased to have published this report and been able to share the significant strides we have taken as we transition to a net zero company, with this first update against our Net Zero Transition Plan.
“We will continue to turn ambition into action for a net zero world.”
