Urenco takes on first interns from IAEA Marie Sklodowska-Curie programme

11 August 2025 Global News

Urenco has welcomed its first interns from an industry-leading women-in-nuclear programme that it has supported for more than five years.

Elizabeth, 23 and Linge, 24 will be working out of our UK site in Capenhurst, after applying via the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship Programme (MSCFP).

Urenco has been a committed social impact partner of the MSCFP since it was founded in March 2020, which is named after the famous physicist and Nobel prize-winning laureate.

The programme aims to increase the number of women in the nuclear science field by providing scholarships for Master’s programmes and an opportunity to pursue an internship.

This is the first time Urenco has taken on interns via the programme and is a significant step in the company’s association with the IAEA.

Elizabeth, who recently earned her degree in Nuclear Fusion from TU Eindhoven in the Netherlands, said:

“I am really excited to have the opportunity to gain insight into the uranium enrichment process at Urenco, and to learn skills as a criticality assessor for those systems. I would like to thank Urenco and the IAEA whose partnership has made this possible.”

Linge, who is currently studying Chemical Engineering with a nuclear specialisation at TU Delft, also in the Netherlands, said:

“This internship is the first time I will be actually doing what I have studied, and, as well as learning lots from the Waste and Decommissioning team, I am hoping that the experience will help me decide whether to pursue a projects or operational route going forward.”

Robin Brabin, Head of Talent Acquisition at Urenco, added:

“Supporting people throughout their careers is something we prioritise at Urenco.

“We are pleased to help diversify, contribute to and drive global scientific and technological innovation within the nuclear industry. Both students have settled in well and will have the opportunity to work across different areas of our enrichment facility.”

Scholarships are awarded annually, with the next application period opening on September 1, 2025. Learn more here.
