UUSA is the largest financial donor to the United Way of Lea County for the 15th year in a row

24 January 2022

Eunice, NM- Urenco USA (UUSA) is a proud supporter of the United Way and, for the 15th consecutive year through their annual campaign, they are the largest financial donor in Lea County. This year, the generous employees at UUSA raised over $200,000 for the United Way of Lea County and every dollar will go to enable non-profit organizations in our area to keep their doors open and their services available to all those in need. A sizable donation was made to the United Way of Andrews County as well. UUSA encourages their employees to donate their “Fair Share”, which is equivalent to an hour of pay each pay period, to the United Way, and even offers to deduct the amount they specify from each check and send it to the United Way on their behalf. In addition, UUSA matches each Fair Share Donation from its employees which multiplies the contribution exponentially.

UUSA’s President and CEO, Karen Fili, takes a very personal interest in the annual campaign. “I have been giving to the United Way since 1993,” she shared. “At my last role before coming to UUSA, I served on the United Way Board of Directors in Augusta, Georgia. I was able to witness first-hand the checks and balances they have in place which only further embedded the trust I have in the United Way and what they do. In every place I have lived in the last 28 years, I have always been able to count on this organization to use every contribution in responsible ways to help our community.”

Not only did UUSA employees raise a significant amount of money for the United Way, but each year they donate their time to community improvement projects like the 9/11 Day of Service Campaign and education programs such as the Richie Enrichment Workshops that engage over 1,500 fifth graders each year at participating schools. “I am proud to see that we have continued the tradition of giving making 15 years as the United Way’s largest giver,” said Lisa Hardison, Manager of Communications and Public Relations at UUSA. UUSA would like to thank their employees for their generosity and for always being willing to do their Fair Share to make a difference in this community.

United Way of Lea County also recently recognized Hardison for her service as the United Way President during 2021. “Many of our employees serve on the boards of the United Way partner agencies within the local community,” shared Hardison. “Being able to serve our community is such a fulfilling experience.”

Although Hardison’s board term ended in 2022, UUSA’s President & CEO, Karen Fili, will be joining the United Way of Lea County’s Board to continue to facilitate a deep connection between the two organizations.
