Senior Control & Instrumentation Engineer (Design Authority)

We are currently seeking a Senior Control & Instrumentation (C&I) Engineer to join our Design Authority team based in Gronau, Germany.
In this senior technical role, you will act as the technical conscience for assigned projects or plant modifications, ensuring designs are robust, standards-compliant, well-documented, and deliver the required functionality and safety performance.

What you’ll do:
Design Assurance
- Provide technical oversight across a wide range of C&I design deliverables, ensuring quality and consistency.
- Apply rigorous verification and validation processes to engineering designs.
- Support and participate in design and safety reviews to confirm adherence to standards, specifications, and regulations.
- Ensure that all designs meet technical, safety, performance, and reliability requirements.
Technical Authority and Subject Matter Expert
- Serve as a trusted technical expert for C&I design standards and plant requirements.
- Offer expert guidance and on-site technical support during critical operational challenges.
- Maintain and develop C&I design knowledge within Urenco’s Core Plant Technology (CPT) framework.
- Promote the use of best practices and advanced technologies to improve innovation, reliability, and safety.
- Mentor and support junior and early-career engineers to help develop technical capabilities across the team.
Continuous Technical Improvement
- Stay informed of external industry developments, trends, and innovations that can enhance Urenco’s engineering practices.
- Monitor internal learning from experience (LfE) events and collaborate across international sites to implement improvements.
- Contribute to ongoing enhancement of Urenco’s Group Technical Library, including standards and specifications.
Safety and Compliance
- Support a proactive safety culture by embedding safety considerations into every stage of design.
- Conduct safety assessments and apply lessons learned from both internal and wider industry experiences.
- Ensure that all engineering work complies with applicable regulations, codes of practice, and industry standards.
What do you need to thrive in this role?
Qualifications
- Required: A bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Control & Instrumentation Engineering, or a related discipline is essential.
- Preferred: A master’s degree in a relevant engineering field is desirable.
Experience and Skills
- Proven Expertise: Demonstrated expertise in the conceptual and detailed design of control systems for complex process plants or facilities.
- Leadership: Significant experience in a senior engineering role, with responsibility for plant or component design. Excellent communication and mentoring skills, with the ability to influence, guide, and support others.
- Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving abilities, using practical knowledge to develop innovative technical solutions.
- Industry Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of C&I design principles within the nuclear, chemical, or broader process industries.
