Quality Engineer (Civil Engineer)

We are looking for a Quality Engineer (Civil Construction Engineering or Building Engineering) to strengthen our team in Almelo. In this role, you will support, monitor, and inspect the construction process to ensure that new facilities meet strict quality standards and comply with all applicable laws and regulations.

What you’ll do:

As a Quality Engineer (Civil), you will:

  • Collaborating with contractors, project managers, and other stakeholders to maintain high-quality outcomes.
  • Be actively involved throughout the entire building and implementation phases of the project lifecycle.
  • Interpret construction drawings and possess strong knowledge of building materials and techniques.
  • Work closely with project teams and contractors to oversee daily construction activities.
  • Review and provide feedback on documentation from stake holders.
  • Preparing and maintaining documentation related to quality control and compliance where necessary.
  • Reviewing contractors’ quality plans (QP) and manufacturing inspection and test plans (MITP) to ensure compliance.
  • Be actively involved throughout the entire manufacturing and implementation phases of the project lifecycle.
  • Interpret technical drawings and possess strong knowledge of systems, materials and techniques in applicable discipline.
  • Inspecting materials and workmanship to guarantee adherence to regulations and project requirements.
  • Performing regular quality control checks and inspections at all stages of construction to ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
  • Identifying and resolving quality issues during the manufacturing and implementation processes.
  • Stay informed of the latest regulatory requirements and coach internal teams on their application and proper usage.
  • Lead and drive continuous improvement initiatives, using quality data to resolve issues and improve processes.
  • Record/capture and apply lessons learned from quality-related incidents to avoid recurrence and enhance future performance.
  • Perform supplier inspections to ensure that their quality standards align with Urenco’s requirements and project expectations.

What do you need to thrive in this role?

  • Bachelor’s degree (HBO) in Civil Engineering (Bouwkunde in Dutch) and experience with construction-related contract forms (UAV, design & build).
  • At least 3–5 years of relevant practical experience within the industrial construction sector.
  • Strong background in site inspections, quality audits, and supplier assessments.
  • Experience in managing construction projects (industrial or commercial) from start to finish.
  • Proven ability to develop and adhere to, or evaluate Quality Control Plans (QCPs) and Manufacturing Inspection and Test Plans (MITPs), from suppliers.
  • A proactive, independent work attitude with the ability to deliver results autonomously.
  • Ability to analyse complex data sets and use them to make informed decisions.
  • Strong skills in root cause analysis and problem-solving, with a track record of driving improvements based on quality issues.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of relevant quality and regulatory requirements, with the ability to ensure compliance across all project phases.
  • Experience in supporting and influencing quality throughout the project lifecycle, from design to delivery.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to internal teams and external partners.

Desirable Skills

  • Risk Management: Familiarity with risk-based approaches to quality, such as FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and RCA (Root Cause Analysis).
  • Supplier Relationship Management: Experience managing and improving supplier quality standards, building strong relationships to drive performance.
  • Continuous Improvement Tools: Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies.
  • Language Skills: Fluent in both Dutch and English (spoken and written).
  • Flexibility: Willingness to travel as part of the role, including international travel.
