Urenco Group has been shortlisted for a 2015 PRCA Award in the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) category for its Richie Programme of science and education outreach activities. The PRCA Awards are the annual awards of Europe’s largest public relations association, and as the only B2B company nominated in this category, we are very proud of this nomination.
The Richie Programme, which was also shortlisted in the CSR category of the 2014 PRCA Awards, is very important to Urenco and is a core element of our school and education outreach. Urenco created Richie, an animated character who acts as the ambassador of the Programme, with a mission to encourage schoolchildren to engage in STEM subjects and ensure we have the future talent needed in the energy sector. Through Richie, Urenco connects with its youngest audiences, teaching them about science and energy in an engaging and interactive way. Developing talent in sciences and engineering is crucial for the energy sector and we continue to work towards inspiring a new generation of science leaders.
Since 2007, more than 80,000 school children globally have participated in Richie classroom workshops. In 2014, over 17,000 school children participated in the Richie Programme and its popularity continues to grow. The workshops are complemented by Richie’s own website, social media feeds, DVD, online game, downloadable app and annual Richie Lecture.
Jayne Hallett, Director of Corporate Communications at Urenco, said:
“We are delighted to be shortlisted once again for the 2015 PRCA Awards in recognition of our Richie Programme. This Programme is very important to Urenco – developing talent in sciences and engineering is crucial for the energy sector and we continue to work towards inspiring a new generation of science leaders.”
The 2015 PRCA Award winners will be announced on 10 November.
