Engineering Placement Student – Process

Not many organisations can genuinely claim to make a positive difference on a global scale.
We can.

As a global leader in the production of low carbon energy, we work at the cutting edge of the transition to a sustainable, net zero world. This transformational vision opens up unique and exciting opportunities to build a dynamic, energising, and rewarding career.

We readily acknowledge our responsibility for the safe stewardship of uranium. Through our Tails Management Facility, we can responsibly manage the by-product of our enrichment services, which is crucial to our commitment to nuclear stewardship and sustainability.

About The Role

This role is a Process Engineering Industrial Placement with Urenco, as part of an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering. This Programme is designed to give you the opportunity to gain real, hands-on experience, bridging the gap between university learning and real-world engineering by working alongside our engineering teams in an operational environment.

Duration: 13 months
Remuneration: £16.50 per hour
Location: The role is based at our Capenhurst site near Chester. We offer free parking and there is a train station a few metres away from site with frequent trains to Chester, the Wirral and Liverpool.

Responsibilities

The job holder will support the Process Engineering Team in:
• Carrying out process engineering calculations and studies, working proficiently with process engineering software and modelling tools.
• Providing technical troubleshooting support for plant operation.
• Designing new equipment and progressing plant improvements to equipment and software.
• Increasing productivity and efficiency of the plant whilst maintaining operational safety.

Education & Experience Requirements
• Completed 2 or 3 years of a degree in Chemical Engineering.
• No experience is required, but relevant experience will be considered beneficial.
• An interest in large scale chemical processes.

Selection Process
Our Engineering Placement Programme follows a structured, fair selection process designed to assess both technical potential and professional behaviours.

To apply for this position, please begin by submitting your CV. Our application window will be open for 2 weeks, with a deadline of the 7th April to apply.

Assessment Stages

Successful applications will complete a combination of online assessments and interviews, (preferably in person) in April and early May. All interviews will be arranged to avoid clashes with university examinations and other key coursework deadlines.

Offers and Start Dates

Offers will be confirmed in May 2026, with successful placement students joining us in July 2026 (On condition of successfully obtaining required level of security clearance).

If successful, please note that this role is subject to the below conditions:
• Security Clearance*
• Drugs and Alcohol Test

Reasonable Adjustment

If you require any reasonable adjustments at any stage of the application or assessment process, please let us know as early as possible at earlycareers@urenco.com. We will be happy to discuss your needs and do what we can to ensure you are supported throughout the process.

Our Promise

As a truly global company with a presence in the UK, USA, Germany, and the Netherlands, we know that our individual differences make us stronger. Putting people at the heart of our business, we strive to create an open and inclusive workplace that allows every voice to be heard and diversity to thrive. And we support an array of dedicated initiatives, activities, and employee networks to nurture a positive and inspiring work experience.??

Because together, we are one Urenco. We are enriching the world. And enriching your future.

*Due to the nature of the industry URENCO operates in, all personnel regardless of employment status are required to obtain security clearance at the level required for their role. Security clearances are assessed in accordance with official guidance and regulation. In certain circumstances, additional enhanced considerations apply to roles within URENCO owing to the particular activities that the URENCO Group undertakes in relation to uranium enrichment. Success candidates will need to satisfy security requirements, and all offers of appointment are made subject to the successful approval of all checks initiated.

How to Apply

Urenco is committed to encouraging equality and diversity within our workforce. Are you enthusiastic about this position and you don't meet every single requirement? The real fit for a job is not always in your current experience or education. We are striving towards strong, diverse and complementary teams, in an inclusive and authentic workplace. So if you're excited about this role but your past experience doesn't align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You might be just the right candidate for this or other roles and we would like to meet you!

We outsource our recruitment process to Morson Group. If you choose to apply, the data you enter will be processed on behalf of Urenco by Morson as our recruitment partner.
