Help us to make a world of difference

Urenco is a global leader in the production of low carbon energy. We work at the cutting edge of the transition to a sustainable, net zero world.

We’re currently seeking a Control & Instrumentation Engineer to join our team in Gronau or Almelo. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in the design and development of innovative new-build or modification projects across our production facilities.

At Urenco we’re committed to giving you opportunities to be your best. If you feel you meet some, but not all of what we're looking for, please still apply. We believe in embracing the passion and potential of our people, and to achieve this we offer market leading training and development experiences. Along with the opportunity to be mentored and coached by some of the smartest minds in the industry.

What you’ll do

As a C&I Engineer, you will:

  • Act as the subject matter expert for Control & Instrumentation within the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) process for new builds or plant modifications.
  • Support the Senior C&I Engineer in developing design specifications, ensuring safety bases are met, and contributing to the Plant Safety Case.
  • Lead and contribute to feasibility studies, design concept development, and optioneering activities, applying general engineering standards and identifying the best available technologies.
  • Provide technical expertise and advice on systems, components, and equipment design across multiple projects within the Urenco group.
  • Ensure all designs comply with regulatory safety standards and reflect industry best practices and lessons learned from the nuclear sector.

Key Duties

  • Promote a proactive safety culture, ensuring lessons learned and continuous improvement are embedded into the engineering process.
  • Ensure plant designs integrate robust safety features, drawing on industry best practices and operational feedback.
  • Evaluate C&I design options and support decision-making in feasibility and best available technology studies.
  • Develop and support the delivery of Conceptual Design and Design Specifications focused on C&I systems.
  • Contribute to the Basic Design packages, particularly for Core Plant Technology (CPT), with respect to C&I systems and components.
  • Provide technical oversight and direction for Detailed Design and supplier manufacturing quality processes, as required by project managers.

What do you need to thrive in this role?

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Process Technology, Engineering, Operational Technology, or Advanced Technology.
  • Additional post-graduate training or qualifications in a science or engineering discipline relevant to Control & Instrumentation.
  • Proven experience in the C&I field, ideally within a highly regulated or complex technical environment.
  • Strong ability to analyse and model complex technical problems and develop innovative, compliant design solutions.
  • Professional experience in Design and Engineering, ideally within nuclear, energy, or process industries.
