Today Urenco has published its annual Sustainability Report for the year ending 31 December 2018.
The highlights are:
- A strong safety performance with no employee or contractor work-related injuries;
- Reduction in CO2 emissions, conventional waste and water usage;
- 100,000 students reached through its global Richie education programme.
Urenco has also created enhanced diversity and inclusion goals for recruitment, succession planning and training, and refreshed its brand, including the values, to evolve the organisation’s culture and further increase levels of employee engagement.
Sustainability is integral to Urenco’s business and the report provides an update on how the business is being managed from an environmental, social and governance perspective.
Centred on six core focus areas - Health and Safety, Safeguards and Security, Environmental Impact, Supplier of Choice, Employee Engagement, Community Engagement and Asset Integrity - the report contains a summary of performance and achievements. It has been prepared in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiatives (GRI) standards, one of the leading sustainability frameworks worldwide. It is also aligned to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Global Compact.
Miriam Maes, Urenco Board member and Chair of its Sustainability Committee, said: "Our sustainability programme supports the delivery of a successful long-term future by ensuring we continue to invest in our people, environment, communities, technology, products and services.
“Our six key areas enable us to focus and report on the most important topics for our stakeholders and business and demonstrate our commitment to them.
“This year’s results show we are making real progress and that sustainability is being successfully embedded into our day to-day operations in line with global goals and standards."
