31 March 2016 Global News

Urenco has today received an award in recognition of its support to the Nuclear Industry Summit (NIS).

Chief Executive Officer of Urenco, Thomas Haeberle, speaking at the panel discussion said:

“I am proud to lead a company that has the skills and expertise to support such a valuable event. This award is a great accolade to our people and their commitment to global nuclear security. I am pleased that as a company and as part of a wider industry there is an appetite and desire for the sector to actively work together in improving all aspects of nuclear security arrangements. Urenco is committed to collaboration and it’s important we work as an industry to enhance the existing high levels of nuclear security. At Urenco we know, together with our industry partners, that we need to continue to maintain confidence in our already extremely high standards when it comes to nuclear security – through our collective transparency, our integrity, our ethical behaviour and our social responsibility.

“It is evident from the attendance of world leaders from more than 50 countries and key figures from the global nuclear industry that continuous improvement in the area of security and safety is a key objective for all.

“The industry has an excellent story to tell about how nuclear is a great benefit to society. From producing approximately 12% of global electricity generation to utilising nuclear technology across all areas of our lives. It provides great benefits to health, food production, industrial development, manufacturing and medicine. All through a minimal carbon footprint.”

Urenco representative Huub Rakhorst, received an award from the NIS in recognition of the support given to the 2014 event. Huub commented that it had been a personal career highlight to host 200 leaders from the worldwide nuclear industry in the Netherlands at the event who came together to discuss critical issues relating to nuclear security.

He went on to say:

“It is not only the value of coming together to discuss critical issues relating to nuclear security but more importantly, it’s about collaboration and how we can continue to work together to enhance security that will benefit not just the industry but society as a whole.”
