On 18 March, Urenco Netherlands MD Ad Louter signed a cooperation agreement on behalf of Urenco with the Municipality of Almelo, Cogas, ETC and the local hospital ZGT. Together with these partners, Urenco aims to develop a district heating network, in order to realise an energy-efficient, climate-resilient and future proof heat grid. The Dutch Urenco site will bring waste heat from its uranium enrichment plant SP5 into the collaboration, whilst the hospital and ETC are both on the receiving end. SP5 produces enough residual heat to supply these two companies with sustainable and CO2-free heat. In addition, the district heating network could heat a further 5,500 homes.
