On 8 April, Mayor Richard Korteland of the city of Almelo officially opened the Urenco Services Building (SBU) at the Urenco Netherlands site. The opening was a joint act, to symbolise the theme of collaboration that is central to the SBU: 100 colleagues simultaneously cut the ribbon together with the Mayor.
A place for connection and for sustainable growth
The SBU has been designed as a modern, sustainable working environment where colleagues from departments across different disciplines come together to collaborate. The building has a strong focus on sustainability and environmental impact, for instance in the choice of construction materials to keep the carbon footprint as low as possible. It is a light and modern building with staircases that playfully connect the different floors, and a roof garden that serves as a place for colleagues to meet and catch up.
“With the opening of this beautiful and sustainable office, Urenco is not only taking a major step towards creating an inspiring and forward-looking workplace. It also marks a special moment in Urenco’s continued expansion in Almelo. This building symbolises collaboration, innovation and job satisfaction, whilst also representing stable, long-term employment and sustainable growth in our region. As a city, we can be proud of that!”, said Mayor Korteland.
Ad Louter, MD of Urenco Netherlands, added: “The opening of the SBU is an important milestone in the ongoing development of our site in Almelo and I compliment Tom Feldkamp and his team on this successful project. This building is not only a pleasant workplace for our colleagues, but also a tangible symbol of the growth opportunities we see for the near future. By growing our capacity, we are strengthening our contribution to a CO2-free, stable and reliable energy supply for the future. We are pleased to have the Mayor as our guest of honour to underline our solid historic connection to the city of Almelo, and Marielle Smit as a representative of ExCom as our Chief People & Culture Officer.”
