Read it hereWednesday 6 December saw our ninth annual Richie Lecture taking place in Wonderlab: The Equinor Gallery at the Science Museum. We welcomed students from schools local to our head office and from London for a day of activities and experiments centring around sustainability.
Students enjoyed a bespoke science performance with Dr Ken Farquhar titled Powering the Future – a carbon-busting sustainability show exploring the science behind climate change and solutions that could help mitigate global warming.
Inspiring the next generation through STEM events like this is really valuable, especially as our industry will be looking for new talent as nuclear energy takes centre stage along with renewables to help tackle the climate crisis.
Following the lecture students explored Wonderlab: The Equinor Gallery, which Urenco sponsors, before coming back for a fun quiz to test their new knowledge and the chance to win some glittering prizes. Everyone went home elated, celebrating their success and full of enthusiasm and energy. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive.
‘Really an amazing experience’ - student
‘A fantastic opportunity for children to come out of the classroom, to come and see science in a different context’ – Asiya Ahmed, Science Teacher, Eastlea Community School
‘We love the Richie Lecture at the Science Museum, it’s a great example of informal learning’ – Carolyn Harris, Science Museum
Our video of the lecture displays just how significant STEM education is, and how its exciting delivery has encouraged and inspired the young people who attended. To find out more about our Richie education programme, visit our sustainability pages.
