Urenco has achieved a credible score for its sustainability credentials, after undergoing an external assessment.
We achieved a bronze medal rating from EcoVadis, a world leader in sustainability ratings for business.
This is the first time we have been assessed under the EcoVadis system and our score means we are in the top 50 percent of all rated organisations.
The assessment concerned a total of 21 areas under four pillars: Environment, Labour and Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement.
Our work surrounding our net zero ambitions is on the right track, and whilst we were compliant across the board on sustainability, areas of improvement have been highlighted in relation to other important social sustainability areas. Focal points have already been established to address these.
Head of Sustainability at Urenco, Rob Little, said:
“This was a mammoth effort by teams across the organisation for a first-of-our-kind assessment and I’d like to congratulate everyone for their collaboration and hard work.”
EcoVadis is already working as a valued partner on our sustainability strategy by engaging and assessing our direct supply chain on their own sustainability.
A major part of this is ensuring our scope 3 emissions (indirect emissions) are reduced in-line with our net zero ambitions – by having EcoVadis monitor our suppliers’ emissions.
Rob added: “This is a first step for us and the benefit of being assessed like this is that we can improve, including by learning best practice from those in our supply chain who have achieved gold or even platinum medals.
“Having a medal ourselves also underpins our credibility when we ask suppliers to do the same via our partnership with EcoVadis. We will seek improvements to our score as part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability.”
So far 225 of our 358 suppliers have achieved a medal rating from EcoVadis, ranging from bronze right up to platinum.
