MP visits Urenco HQ

17 February 2023 Global News

Urenco hosted Conservative UK Member of Parliament Joy Morrissey at our headquarters.

Urenco hosted Conservative UK Member of Parliament Joy Morrissey at our headquarters.

Joy is the local MP for Beaconsfield which includes Stoke Poges – where our HQ is based.

On Monday she met Chief Executive Officer Boris Schucht who discussed Urenco’s role as a leading employer in the area, its engagement with charitable organisations and schools in South Buckinghamshire and further afield, and its wider part in supporting the Government’s net zero and energy security goals.

As an active employer, Urenco has 259 employees based at its Stoke Poges site.

It was Joy’s first visit to Urenco HQ since becoming the Beaconsfield MP in 2019.

After the meeting, Joy was introduced to two Urenco employees who live in Beaconsfield, as well as another whose children attend a school in the area.

Aside from her role as local MP, Joy is also an assistant government whip.

Boris said: “It was a pleasure to have Joy visit our Head Office at Stoke Poges.

“The UK has set out plans to scale up and accelerate affordable, low-carbon nuclear energy and we discussed the role of Urenco and the nuclear fuel supply chain in supporting these ambitions.

“With new investment in the UK civil nuclear fuel industry, the UK can be a leader in ensuring its own energy security and independence and help other countries achieve the same.”

Joy said: “Sustainability is clearly at the heart of everything Urenco are doing as a company, work that will become even more important as we transition to carbon net zero.

“As a leading local employer, I was encouraged to see their engagement with the local community through charities and schools, and will do all I can to support them in building a sustainable, locally-focussed business fit for the future.”
