Urenco becomes a corporate member of FORATOM

04 February 2021 Global News

Urenco has become a Supporting Corporate member of FORATOM to further our ability to help advocate for nuclear within Europe.

FORATOM is the voice of the nuclear industry within Europe and to date Urenco has participated in its activities through its membership of the UK’s Nuclear Industry Association and Vereniging  Nucleair Nederland.

Urenco wanted to enhance its support through a direct membership with FORATOM and we will now be involved to a greater extent in the association’s policy work.

Urenco Director Government Affairs (EU), Kees Jan Steenhoek, is Chair of FORATOM’s overarching Policy Framework Steering Group and Vice-Chair of its Sustainability Policies Working Group. He said: “It is of critical importance that all leaders in the industry support the efforts to have Government policies which recognise the benefits of all low carbon technologies. This is how we will realise the valuable role that nuclear can play in achieving a net zero future. We are delighted to have become a corporate member of FORATOM and we will be working hard to help ensure the nuclear industry’s voice is heard and its complementary role to renewables and other clean energy systems is understood.”

FORATOM Director General, Yves Desbazeille, said: “We are delighted to have such an important player in the nuclear sector joining our efforts to defend the interest of the industry at EU level. Urenco’s undisputed knowledge of nuclear as a whole, its expertise and strong engagement are crucial in our endeavours.”
