A roundtable discussion organised by Urenco and Aurora Energy Research has been held to further the debate around the role nuclear ought to play in the production of hydrogen.

The event, which took place yesterday at the Royal Automobile Club in London, followed the publication of a new study by Aurora Energy Research last month, which was commissioned by Urenco and supported by the International Atomic Energy Agency, EDF and Lucid Catalyst.

Chaired by The Rt Hon Amber Rudd of Public Policy Projects, the roundtable participants also included representatives from the Department for Transport, National Grid Group, International Energy Agency, Energy Institute, World Nuclear Association, Transport & Environment, Green Alliance, Civil Aviation Authority, Innovate UK, National Nuclear Labs, PA Consulting, Ceres Power, Baringa and Gemserv.

A productive, challenging and insightful discussion was held with the aim of raising the awareness of the significant contribution nuclear can play in de-risking the energy transition to achieving net zero,  focusing on the implications of the study and next steps.

In his closing remarks, David Fletcher, Head of Business Development at Urenco, stated that the next steps in advocating for nuclear-hydrogen was to take the message to policy makers and institutional investors, and to continue to raise public perception of nuclear.
