The Capenhurst site has a long-standing relationship with the hospice, which does fantastic work in supporting members of the community with life limiting illnesses and their families.
Our donation will be spent wherever the hospice most needs it but the difference £12,500 could make is outlined below.
- It could cover the running costs of the hospice for almost a day, helping to provide specialist nursing, family support, meals, equipment, and comfort for every patient and family in the building.
- It could fund 15 days of care for one patient, including nursing, meals, medication, and emotional support.
- It supports around 250 counselling or complementary therapy sessions, helping patients and families through incredibly difficult times.
- It could cover the full cost of caring for a single patient right through to the end of life, ensuring comfort, dignity, and specialist support throughout.
Many people associate the hospice with end of life care, but they provide so much more than this, including inpatient and outpatient services, a living well service and even children's bereavement counselling.
The hospice relies heavily on the generosity of the community, with around 75–80% of its funding coming from donations, charity shops, and fundraising events. Only 20–25% is provided through statutory sources. This is why continued support from Urenco and our colleagues is so important.
Andrew Cottrell, Managing Director of UK Operations said:
“The hospice is particularly close to our colleagues’ hearts and we are extremely proud to be able to support such a worthwhile cause in our local community.
“With the hospice having to raise the majority of its funding on its own - they receive only 17% of their £5.6 million running costs from Government sources - it is so important that local businesses get behind them so that they can continue providing such vital support for people across west Cheshire and Deeside.”
Justin Caroe, Interim Director of Income Generation/Head of Fundraising said:
“We are deeply grateful for Urenco’s generous £12,500 donation. Support like this helps us continue offering the compassionate care our community relies on. Being at the hospice is often described as feeling like a gentle enveloping hug, a place that wraps its arms around patients and families when they need it most.
“Urenco's contribution helps us provide 15 days of care for one patient, including nursing, meals, medication, and emotional support for them and their family. We are truly thankful for Urenco's commitment to helping us deliver this care when it matters most.”
We will be continuing to support the hospice throughout the year.
