How far have we come? Urenco reflects on Net Zero Week

11 July 2025 Sustainability News

As we mark Net Zero Week in the UK, we reflect on the progress we’ve made and our continued pursuit of a more sustainable future.

That’s why we aim to achieve net zero by 2040.

We are working towards this long-term ambition with targets for 2030 to reduce our operational emissions and those from purchased electricity by 90% and separately supply chain emissions by 30% from our 2019 baseline year.

We have already made significant progress. All four of our enrichment sites have now secured a supply of 100% low-carbon electricity, hitting our scope 2 requirement ahead of schedule! Read more here: Urenco - 2030 emissions target within reach

Prior to this, as published in our 2024 annual report, our combined operational and purchased electricity emissions were down by 53% from 2019.

However, there is still more work to do. Here are just a few examples of the tangible changes we are continuing to deliver against our net zero ambitions across our sites:

  • All sites are actively working reduce refrigerant emissions
  • Our conference building in Almelo is now natural gas-free
  • 30 EV charging points have been installed in Gronau
  • 23 new EV charging points for employees and fleet vehicles have been installed in Capenhurst, UK
