Urenco speaks at Singapore International Energy Week for the first time

05 November 2026 Global

Southeast Asian countries are laying the foundations to potentially incorporate nuclear energy into their future energy mix.

Urenco was proud to attend Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) 2026 where the importance of resilient nuclear fuel supply chains and long-term investment were a key topic of discussion. The event brought together representatives from across Southeast Asia and beyond to explore the deployment of nuclear energy.

Our Head of Government Affairs UK, Joseph Priestley contributed to discussions on the role of nuclear in supporting energy security and decarbonisation. It comes as many Southeast Asian nations, who do not currently have nuclear, explore the option in more detail for their energy futures.

At the SIEW Thinktank Roundtable on ‘Advancing Nuclear Readiness for Energy Security and Decarbonisation’, Joe said:

“Urenco has gone from reducing capacity in line with market demand to growing capacity with 4.6 million of new SWU confirmed to meet increased customer demand.”

He also highlighted Urenco's ongoing investments in advanced fuels, including HALEU to power advanced reactors, to help meet the future needs of its customers.

Joe had previously participated in a panel discussion hosted by Stephenson Harwood LLP about the front end of the nuclear fuel cycle.

The panel explored how growing interest in nuclear energy across Southeast Asia is increasing the focus on fuel supply security, supply diversification and the investment needed to support future demand.

A key theme across both events was the importance of ensuring nuclear deployment is supported by the wider ecosystem, including fuel supply capabilities, infrastructure and effective collaboration between governments, regulators and industry.
