Urenco closes in on top ranking for climate change actions

14 January 2026 Global News

We achieved one of the highest ratings from a global evaluation for our work in relation to climate change.

Urenco scored an A- from the CDP, the non-for-profit organisation that runs a disclosure information system for businesses, cities, states and regions around the world, to help them manage their environmental impacts.

Our score was an A- for Climate and a B- for water, the two areas which are applicable to our business.  Previously we had scored a B for Climate.

It means we are achieving “outstanding environmental performance, transparent communication and proactive impact management,” with room for further improvement.

The CDP is formerly known as the Climate Disclosure Project.

Head of Global Sustainability for Urenco, Rob Little said: “Achieving an A- rating for the first time is recognition of the hard work and commitment to deliver Urenco’s net zero programme and meet our science based targets.

"It is further evidence that we are moving in the right direction to reduce the effects of climate change.

“We are currently just short of the highest-ranked companies and our next goal is to join them.”

In 2021, Urenco signed the Climate Pledge, committing to becoming net zero across scopes 1, 2 and 3 by 2040. Since then we have committed to science-aligned, near term targets for 2030, aiming to reduce our emissions in absolute terms by 90% for our direct operations (scopes 1 and 2), and by 30% for our supply chain (scope 3), against a 2019 baseline.

In 2025,  we took a significant step towards decarbonising our entire power supply by entering into new, low-carbon contracts at our sites in the USA and Germany. Doing this confirms all of our four sites as Net Zero under GHG reporting protocols by 2030.
