UK Nuclear Minister Lord Vallance visits Capenhurst
18 June 2026 GlobalUrenco was pleased to welcome the Minister for Science, Innovation, Research and Nuclear, Lord Patrick Vallance, to the Capenhurst site on 17 June as part of ongoing engagement with government on the future of the UK’s nuclear fuel sector.
The visit, hosted by Andrew Cottrell, Managing Director of Urenco UK, provided an opportunity to showcase Capenhurst’s critical role in supporting secure, low-carbon energy generation in the UK and internationally.
Lord Vallance also met with Urenco apprentices during the visit, highlighting the skills and talent development underpinning the UK’s future nuclear workforce.
A key focus of the visit was the development of advanced fuels, including Urenco’s High Assay Low Enriched Uranium (HALEU) programme. The Minister was provided with an update on progress during a tour of the site, which also included a visit to the E23 enrichment facility.
The engagement reflects Urenco’s continued commitment to working closely with the UK Government to enable investment, support innovation, and ensure the UK remains at the forefront of the global nuclear fuel cycle.
