Carers Week in the UK (6 – 12 June, 2022) is an annual event to help raise awareness of caring, particularly highlighting the challenges unpaid carers face and recognising the contribution they make to families and their communities. In Britain, there are an estimated 6.5 million carers, who provide care and support to a family member or friend who has a disability, illness, mental health condition, addiction or who needs extra help as they grow older.
The week provides us with an opportunity to acknowledge the support provided by many people working for Urenco who have caring responsibilities and provide care for people on a day-to-day basis in addition to doing their jobs and caring for colleagues whilst at work.
This year, we have set up a Carers Network for our colleagues, which aims to complement the existing support that’s in place across the organisation. An informal network for all carers, it provides a safe place to talk and share experiences, resources and knowledge. The power of being listened to cannot be underestimated, especially when facing challenges as a carer.
Joerg Harren, Managing Director of Urenco Deutschland, said: “Carers are often the unsung heroes within our communities, who’s working lives can be extremely challenging due to the additional responsibilities they take on outside of their careers. We recognise the importance of supporting the supporters and hope that the Carers Network will provide an additional layer of assistance to the programmes that already exist at Urenco."
