We welcome the European Parliament’s decision to support the Taxonomy Complementary Climate Delegated Act (CDA) on climate change mitigation and adaptation covering certain gas and nuclear activities.
The adoption of this CDA is a hugely important milestone with the political landscape dominated by energy security challenges and the need to decarbonise global economies. Nuclear power can and should play an important role in the clean energy transition and the Parliament’s support for nuclear in the EU taxonomy supports energy sustainability, affordability, and security.
The Parliament’s decision now also puts the European nuclear industry on an equal footing with other parts of the world. The US, Canada, UK, China and many others are providing strong political and financial support to their nuclear industry and it is important that the EU demonstrates a similar approach.
