Urenco welcomes World Nuclear Association white paper
14 July 2020 Global NewsUrenco welcomes the World Nuclear Association white paper, Building a stronger tomorrow: Nuclear power for a post-pandemic world, discussing the important role of nuclear energy in the post-pandemic environment.
The report highlights that nuclear energy can play a central role in post-COVID-19 recovery efforts by boosting economic growth, while also supporting the development of low-carbon, resilient and affordable electricity infrastructure.
The report complements Forty by ’50: A Nuclear Roadmap published by the UK Nuclear Industry Association, setting out an ambitious programme based on existing and new technologies and outlining how nuclear could assist with deeper decarbonisation through the provision of heat and the creation of hydrogen.
Chris White, Director of Governments Affairs, said: “It is very encouraging to see nuclear industry bodies such as the World Nuclear Association and Nuclear Industry Association clearly setting out the important dual role nuclear can have in boosting a post COVID-19 economic recovery and accelerating the achievement of decarbonisation goals.
“Urenco is strongly committed to these aims and has a leading role to play in fuelling additional reactors globally, both current and new technologies, to ensure a reliable, responsive and sustainable supply.”
