Urenco hosts its third annual Richie Lecture inside new interactive gallery

06 December 2016

Today, Urenco hosts its third consecutive annual Richie lecture at the Science Museum, London inside the showspace of its new interactive gallery Wonderlab:The Statoil Gallery.

Urenco, who is a Major Sponsor of the gallery, have focused their support in two key areas; the Forces zone, and the showspace which is inspired by the Royal Institution’s world-renowned Faraday Theatre. This fantastic venue will welcome over 120 school students today to take part in the Richie lecture activities, hosted by science enthusiast and TV presenter Dallas Campbell, best known for his BBC Documentaries, The Gadget Show and Bang Goes the Theory.

The lecture ‘Dallas in Wonderlab’ is designed to engage and enthuse young people about Science, Technology Engineering and Maths (STEM) subjects, linking in to real life examples of how they have helped change the world.

Dallas’ expansive career will enable him to share images and video clips of his trips across the planet, including flying the Wright Brothers first glider, climbing the London Array wind turbine and even Mexican Sewer diving. These adventures span over a decade telling the story of how we’re engineering our planet to inspire this next generation of STEM leaders.

Dr Stephen Billingham, Chairman of Urenco, said:

“This is our third annual Richie Lecture and our first inside this fantastic new interactive gallery Wonderlab.

The Richie lecture forms a key part of Urenco's Richie education programme, which has successfully engaged with young people since 2007. Through Richie, Urenco is committed to nurturing an interest in STEM subjects to help inspire future generations of science leaders. The programme has grown considerably over the last ten years, reaching more than 100,000 young people globally.

Today’s lecture is a great opportunity for young people to take inspiration from this fantastic space and develop a career that could change the world. Whether they become a nuclear scientist, astronaut or the person who will cure cancer, the possibilities are endless.’’

Dallas Campbell said:

‘‘It’s a pleasure to be asked to present Urenco annual Richie lecture inside Wonderlab. I was lucky enough to see the gallery for myself on its opening night and was amazed by all the interactive exhibits and experiments. I’m really looking forward to presenting the lecture today and sharing my experiences with everyone.’’
