Environmental initiatives

 Cheshire Wildlife Trust

As part of its commitment to the environment, Capenhurst is sponsoring ‘environment workshops’ run by Cheshire Wildlife Trust. The workshops content is designed to teach children about their local wildlife. As well as being a fun event for students, they also educate about animal and wildlife habitats, and the importance of conservation. This year the workshops took place in April at Bickley, Cheshire (where the Trust’s headquarters are located). In recognition of its continued support of the Trust, Capenhurst became a platinum member in 2007.

 Tree festival – harvesting knowledge

Since 2005, Capenhurst has sponsored the Chester and District Tree Festival. The annual festival uses trees as a fun and inventive way of teaching children about food production and the importance of healthy eating. The festival educates students from schools in the Chester area about the tree pollination cycle. Using a three-year rolling programme, students are shown how to plant trees in year one, harvesting and replanting in the second year and finally further harvesting and seed collection in the final year.
