LES in the Local Community
We have received tremendous support since it was announced in mid-2003 that LES would build the National Enrichment Facility in Lea County. We strive daily to return that support by being a good neighbour and responsible corporate citizen. LES supports a wide variety of activities and organisations on a local, state-wide and national level.
Examples of our commitment are highlighted below.
LES Number One Contributor for the second year running
LES has been named number one contributor to the United Way of Lea County Campaign for 2009. Contributions to the campaign are received are calculated at the beginning of the year and thanks to a generous commitment to donate from LES employees, plus a corporate contribution, LES has received the top spot for the second year running.
In 2008, LES also donated to the United Way of Andrews Campaign, (which covers the community in neighbouring Lea County). United Way uses the money donated to help the homeless, senior citizens, families in need, and crisis-intervention agencies in Lea County and Andrews.
New Mexico Junior College Scholarship Program
LES awards scholarships to area high school graduates seeking to obtain an associate of science or associate of applied science degree from New Mexico Junior College. To date, $10,755 has been awarded in scholarship money. To apply for a scholarship, contact the New Mexico Junior College Foundation on tel: +1 575·492·2780. Our goal is to provide 10 scholarships a year.
The National Atomic Museum
As part of our commitment to promote the nuclear industry, LES is sponsoring an exhibit on the "Uranium Cycle: one of 13 new exhibits designed to demonstrate how uranium is milled and used to fuel nuclear power plants. The National Atomic Museum in Albuquerque, New Mexico is to be renamed the National Museum of Nuclear Science and History.
LES President and CEO Reinhard Hinterreither commented "We are proud to support the National Atomic Museum in their efforts to educate the public on the critical role uranium enrichment plays in providing a safe and dependable source of energy to meet the growing demand for electricity in the United States."
National Museum of Nuclear Science, Albuquerque, USA
In the US, as part of the commitment to promote the nuclear industry, URENCO sponsored an exhibit on the ‘Uranium Cycle’ at the National Museum of Nuclear Science and History in Albuquerque, USA. The exhibit was designed to demonstrate how uranium is processed and used to fuel nuclear power stations.
Eunice Community Foundation
LES established the non-profit Eunice Community Foundation (ECF) in 2005 to support education and community improvement programs in Eunice, New Mexico. ECF has provided funding to support a variety of organizations and events to improve quality of life.
A recent example is the $10,000 donation from ECF to the Southeastern New Mexico Educational Resource Center(SNMERC). This donation to SNMERC provides Hands-On Elementary Kits supporting New Mexico science standards to the schools in Eunice, NM.

Community Partnership Committee
The Community Partnership Committee (CPC) was formed in March of 2007 to further our goal of being a good community partner to Lea County and the surrounding area. The CPC consists of 28 community leaders from throughout the region. The committee meets bi-monthly with members of the LES senior management staff regarding the status of the National Enrichment Facility, and to answer any questions or concerns CPC members may have.
