Building and Operating URENCO USA

LES (now branded URENCO USA*), a wholly owned subsidiary of URENCO, has made significant progress in its goal to construct the URENCO USA facility and become the first US centrifuge uranium enrichment plant.  Robust project, operational, and corporate teams have been established to monitor construction activities, and ensure training and procedural development is on schedule.

History

On June 23, 2006, LES* made history when the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, for the first time, issued a license to construct and operate a gas centrifuge uranium enrichment plant to be known as the URENCO USA facility, located five miles east of Eunice, New Mexico in Lea County.

It is anticipated that at full capacity the plant can produce sufficient enriched uranium for nuclear fuel to provide approximately 10% of America’s electricity needs.
